Located approximately 18km (11 miles) northwest of Raleigh and 17km (10.5 miles) southeast of Durham, Raleigh-Durham International Airport is the second largest airport in North Carolina. It serves these cities and the surrounding Research Triangle region. 5,000 acres in size, the three original runways from 1951 can still be seen from the southeast side of the airport.
